Leadership
Welcome to the Department of Radiology
Welcome to the Radiology and Interventional Radiology Department at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where cutting-edge technology meets world-class care.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality imaging and minimally invasive treatments in a patient-centered environment.
At the forefront of modern medicine, the Department of Radiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center provides comprehensive imaging and minimally invasive treatment services. Our department is structured around two key pillars of radiologic science—Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology—each playing a critical role in patient care, education, and research.
We serve as an academic training center with a Diagnostic Radiology Residency program that has been ACGME accredited since 1971 and currently has 24 residents and several fellowship positions. Medical students from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, as well as visiting students from across the globe, rotate through our Radiology Department which is staffed by subspecialty trained faculty, allowing for a broad and in-depth exposure to the various sections in radiology.
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is one of only five Level I Trauma Centers in Los Angeles County. The hospital is the cornerstone of healthcare services for more than 700,000 residents in the greater South Bay catchment area. Since 1946, the hospital has served the Southwestern region of Los Angeles County, providing high quality healthcare to every patient regardless of their ability to pay.
Diagnostic Radiology (DR)
Diagnostic Radiology is the cornerstone of medical imaging, enabling accurate and early detection of disease across all organ systems. Our board-certified radiologists use cutting-edge imaging technologies including:
- X-ray
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Ultrasound
- Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT
- Women’s Imaging
Our team collaborates closely with referring clinicians to ensure that imaging findings translate into timely, effective patient care. We also maintain a strong commitment to training the next generation of radiologists through hands-on education and academic excellence.
Interventional Radiology (IR)
Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions. IR procedures often serve as alternatives to open surgery, with reduced risk, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times.
Our IR services include:
- Vascular interventions (e.g., angioplasty, embolization, venous thromboembolic treatments)
- Oncologic interventions (e.g., tumor ablation, chemoembolization, radioembolization, & more)
- Non-vascular procedures (e.g., biopsies, drainages, vertebroplasty)
With a patient-centered approach and a focus on innovation, our interventional radiologists are leaders in advancing procedural radiology through clinical care, research, and education.
Academic Mission
As part of Harbor-UCLA, an academic medical center, the Department of Radiology is dedicated to advancing the field of radiology through:
- Clinical excellence
- Rigorous residency and fellowship programs
- Pioneering research
- Multidisciplinary collaboration
We strive to shape the future of radiology by training exceptional physicians, fostering innovation, and improving patient outcomes.
We offer fellowship positions in Neuroradiology, Breast Imaging, and Nuclear Radiology.
The Department of Radiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center offers two Radiology Elective Rotations through the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine for both UCLA Medical Students and Visiting Medical Students.
The Radiology Faculty at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center comprise a diverse group of specialists with decades of experience and a passion for resident education. Our mission is to serve the community with the highest quality care, and to mentor our trainees to become outstanding radiologists.
