Division of Hospital Medicine
The Division of Hospital Medicine’s mission is to provide outstanding and equitable inpatient care, excel in teaching and mentoring both residents and medical students, and facilitate research in quality improvement. Our division consists of physicians and nurse practitioners. We manage both non-teaching and academic ward teams. In addition to providing acute inpatient care, our hospitalists are involved in research, residency training and recruitment, medical student education, and various hospital operations.

Hospital Medicine Elective
The elective in Hospital Medicine allows 2nd and 3rd year medicine residents to explore their interest in the field of hospital medicine. The rotation distinguishes itself from medicine wards by including both clinical and non-clinical experiences.
Residents will provide independent care under the direct supervision of an academic hospitalist. Rotators spend time with ancillary support services including wound care, physical and occupational therapy, nutrition, speech language and pathology, and visit a long-term acute care hospital. Finally, residents will go through modules on topics such as patient safety and medical errors, physician billing, work relative value units (wRVUs), hospital metrics, reimbursement, and transitions of care.
